Karipap Again - Also Ugly!

Image
Date: 21 June 2018 Karipap - It has to be one of the most favouritest Malaysian 'kuih' ever. Hasben loves it sooo much - he'll let everybody know (especially the Malaysian ladies) so that maybe, they'll remember to send some karipap over to our house if they ever made them (>u<) . For example, Kak Hani made some for him a couple of years back for his birthday, and most recently, Kak Ija gave a whole plastic bag of frozen karipaps - twice! Okay, cooking is not my thing. But I had attempted to make karipap in the past and decided to give them another go. Made the filling - no problem, just a bunch of potatoes with curry powder. The dough was a different story. I mean, I mixed the flour + butter + water okay, but just not sure how to make them less sticky, so that I can actually shape them. I was so frustrated that I ended up just chucking them in the oil, regardless of how they looked like, just as long as the filling were completely covered by the dough. Has...

Popiah Fail!

Image
This is a very depressing day for me. In a normal day, my food are more or less edible. But today, my popiah was, how should I say this, horrifically revolting. Asyik share gamba masakan yang menjadi, kali ini, saya ingin kongsikan masakan gagal. Sekali gigit, suami pasti pengsan. Jangan cuba resepi ni ye kawan2... I prepared the stuffing while fasting, so I couldn't taste them. Wanted to fry some on time for Iftar. Hasben helped with the frying. He bit excitedly across the crunchy popiah skin... And made a scrunched up face followed by a wiggly dance. At that moment on, I knew that it was a big mistake to put the fried suon! It probably had gone bad but I wasn't sure. It did smell a bit weird though. The fried suon was given to me by Dura, leftovers from one of her parties. And me, always challenging myself to use up all the hand-me-downs ingredients thought it was a good idea to made this suon popiah. HAH! FAILED BIG TIME! Now, everytime I burped, I can taste it. Karipap... Ke Tu?

Hasben was so excited, promised to make me some curry puff using Mama's frozen chicken curry. He said that Kak Su suggested using this for a ready-made, hassle-free dough: He didn't want to admit it but he needed my help to actually put the plan into place. The moment I saw this rectangular shaped curry puff, I knew some intervention was required. With my help, you could say they looked identifiable.. But after deep-fried, yikes! If I didn't tell you we were making karipap, you wouldn't have even guessed, right? They don't even look healthy to eat, but thankfully, Mama's inti made them tatsy (^u^)

Oatmeal Peanut Choc Chunk Cookies!

Image
Oat! I have a bag full of oat, given by Durra before her return to Malaysia. Oat is good for your health... But Hasben doesn't like it. It will take 5 years for me to finish it alone. So I made cinnamon oat porridge English style (strong dislike by all), oat chicken porridge Malay style (Hasben gave up on the third serving), oat cekodok goreng (Hasben loved it but failed to capture Kimi's heart) and finally, oat cookies (with chocolate chips so you know Kimi can't resist). Man, the things you do to please a small family! Kimi waiting eagerly while I shaped the dough: In the oven: Ready! I have this much left. What shall I make next? Oat curry with oat roti canai?

Roti Jala Kerjasama

Image
Ramadhan is here again! Alhamdulillah for the opportunity given to celebrate this blessed month... Being heavily pregnant, I am less enthusiastic about breaking fast at the mosque. This means that I have to cook something nearly everyday or eat whatever leftovers in the fridge - orang malas selalu rugi! Roti Jala is one of my favourite Malay dish. It is known as 'net pancake' in English. Hasben was very excited to make some since I kept on mentioning about it. So he YouTubed the recipe, made the mixture and pan fried the roti jala, while I folded them (that's it). Our joint venture had yielded some horrific and unfortunate looking roti jala! Which reminded me of our mini popiah project... Hmm... Good old times :0) At Instagram, I uploaded this, filtered to perfection: In reality, we had a few undisclosed categories ;p Ramadhan Mubarak everybody!
