Arabic Letters - Dal, Dzal, Raa and Zai

Image
The Toowoomba Mosque has finally started construction. As you might be aware, it was subjected to an arson attack a couple of years back. So currently, efforts have been undertaken to raise funds for rebuilding the burnt mosque, and one of the ways is through Fundraising Dinners. We have attended last year's event at Brisbane. This year, it was held at Darling Height States School and the outcome was positive, with an estimated AUD200,000 raised. Anyway, for our Madrasah class, we are now learning and trying to memorise the letters Dal, Dzal, Raa and Zai. These are the Banana Letters. Dal and Dzal are the little bananas , while Raa and Zai are the big bananas . As of yesterday, my students still did not remember them, and they even forgot the ones they learnt before... Oh nooo! =(  Here is the worksheet I made. Happy learning girls and boys!  Banana Letters  Signing off, Ju Zie.

Xander's Birthday Party

Image
Date: 11 November 2018 A beautiful day for a party at Laurel Bank Park. Happy birthday to a special little man, Xander Love, who is one of my students from Madrasah. He is the cutest little thing - half Indonesian and half Australian, and he can speak both Indo and English. I made this gluten-free cake for Afi, so that he won't feel left out. I figured that from now on, I have to bring my own cake for all birthday parties - the things mommies do for their gluten-intolerant kids eh... The dads were busy grilling the sate while mommy Sofi was the perfect host.  The weather was terrific for the event. The kids were running around and also playing at the near-by playground.  Also, the piñata was such an anticipated event - it was the first time for Kimi to hit a piñata (I'm thinking he will request this for his birthday next year!) while Afi was busy attacking a watermelon, being oblivious of his surroundings... haha! This is the aftermath of the piñata breakin

Fabric Bookmark

Image
Bookmarks are always awesome, even in the modern world of Kindle, kids - and adults - still prefer physical books. I, for example, loves the smell of new books! Fabric bookmarks are great for kids as they are washable and relatively durable than the common paper bookmarks. Beautiful patterns make them oh, so adorable too. The size of these bookmarks are approximately: 17cm x 6cm - size varies slightly as they are individually handmade. Price: AUD4.50 each excluding postage.   These were bulk ordered as farewell gifts to a classroom of friends, 12 boys and 12 girls. Enjoyed making them to encourage young minds to read and explore their imaginations.

Kimi's Adventure in Japan!

Image
Today I have a guest writer, writing his first ever post. It's my little man, Kimi. Hope you enjoy his story =D Hi my name is Kimi. And I am going to talk about my adventure at Japan. I ride a Jet star air bus and a boeing one. The toilets has butens so you won’t need to use your hand. I was scared of the typhoon.  I ride the bullet train and I nearly vomit in it.    I didn't like the deer poop. I like the presents that Opah and Nekma and Atuk gave to me, and my brothers. I was a little bit scared riding the cable car. I like the Pokemon best because I have a bunch of Pokemon toys. I like the water sprays because it’s cold. The gates are full with Japanis writing. The golden bilding looks like coins.   Jaws’s   boat ride was very scary. That was my adventure at Japan. Good bye JAPAN.

Eid Al-Adha 1439H

Image
Selamat Hari Raya Aildi Adha everyone! It was a good Eid for us here in Toowoomba... As usual, simple but meaningful. But for the first time, we were so late for the Eid prayers that as we reached the front door of the hall (the usual place at CBD), they were already giving salam. Urgh... very bad time management - every, single, time! Haha! The good thing was we made it there, to share our shop-bought-Lamingtons and listen to the khutbah. Oh, and of course, taking pictures with our friends. Around 9 am, Hasben, together with Pak Kahar, went to help Brother Yahya with the Qurban of 2 lambs. At home, I started cooking some simple Eid dishes: Nasi hujan panas ( lembik !), seafood sambal and chicken paprik. Brought this over to Kak Zai's for a little get together. Spent some time with the tiny Malaysian community here in Toowoomba. That night, with the Qurban given by Kak Zai, I cooked lamb curry and sent some over to Kak Zai's family. It was actual

Cloth Liners/ Cloth Wipes

Image
As a cloth diapering mom, I find using liners very useful as it reduces staining of the precious cloth nappies and easy removal of baby's poo. I wasn't too keen on the disposable liners and hence, made these reusable and washable ones. Two layers of different fabric, one: fleece - quick-drying, therefore keeps baby's skin dry when used as nappy liners; two: flannel: absorbs moisture and rougher texture - great as wipes. You can use these liners however you want, and being multipurpose, reduces things to carry in our mommy bags! Comes in a set of 3 How do you organise your cloth wipes or liners? I put mine in a Tupperware wipe case, the ones used for normal wet wipes - a perfect fit and makes it easily accessible, especially when wiping little messes.  *************************** Bunny  -  Click Here!   AUD$5.50 *************************** Unicorn  - Sold Out *************************** Whale  -  Click Here!   AUD$5.50 _______________
