The Nesting Instinct 2!

Image
Oh wow... Writing more than 1 post in a week. So proud of myself, LOL. It is so important for me to document all these little events in my life for future reference but I am just getting lazier and lazier. But here I am, full of energy, fingers on the keyboard and ready to write! Previously, I mentioned that I am just super excited to beautify our home and have done quite a few changes in just 3 months. One of them is changing the colour scheme of our dining chairs from red to black! Basically, the old and new chairs look the same - only the colour and pattern is different... haha! New and old - same right? Initially, that did not go too well with Hasben because he just could not see the point. But Amart Furnitures had a massive 1-day sale on their Funk Chairs - from $45 to just $10 per chair, limited to 2 chairs per customer. I woke everyone up at 8 AM and after successfully persuaded Hasben that it was absolutely necessary to change the chairs, we went to the Amart by 9.30 A

My Nesting Instinct!

Image
I am currently at my 36 weeks of pregnancy! And the nesting hormone has kicked-in to full speed! I have been redecorating the house, buying some new appliances, rearranging the furniture, and even brought out my sewing machine for some projects. The thing is, when you already have 3 boys, all your hard work seems to last only 1 day. The house just can't stay clean and tidy, and it is driving me insane sometimes, while mostly, I have just decided to accept my faith... An IKEA clock shelf that I have been eyeing since 2010. We finally bought it in October 2019 from Gumtree! Anyway, while changing the cushion cover on our lounge, I noticed that the fillers were coming out from some of the torn cushions. This one is the worst: On the spot, I whipped out my sewing machine, sacrificed Kimi's worn-out doona cover, and covered the whole cushion. As you can see, Hasben's previous attempt was to tape the holes with Fragile Tape! That particular cushion will definitely b

Purple Pansy - Flower Embellishment

Image
Semester 2, 2019 is finally over. It has been a good experience for me as I was given some lecturing and tutoring tasks along with my usual marking responsibilities. I have only successfully completed grading 63 exam papers a couple of days back and currently - so much freedom! I just could not wait to try my hands on some new crochet projects. Since the little daisy embellishments are all sold out, I decided to work on more embellishments! Made these medium-sized embellishments and thought they looked like purple pansies. Took me half a day to finish all 5 flowers. I enjoyed every single minute of it! Sewed on a little button in the middle with striking pink thread. Looks good on a baby's crocheted hat, don't you agree? They're now up for grabs on my eBay and Etsy store. (^u^)y

Chipmunks Playland & Cafe, Toowoomba

Image
Date: 4th October 2019 The school holidays is nearly over. Have promised Kimi for a couple of months now to bring him and his brothers to a playland for his achievement on finishing his Muqaddam and advancing to the ‘adult Quran’. As we arrived, he had a peek from the front door and immediately his eyes lit up!! Long story short, none of them even stopped for a rest. Hasben was also very tired as he had to monitor Adi the whole time. Burn those excess energy kids! The way they were sweating, I think we got our money’s worth :D The big slide, definitely everyone’s favourite. Kids from 5 to 11 years. For the under 5’s. Cafe for the parents. A good spot for them to have a little rest.

Cloth Liners/Wipes: Whale Design

Image
I have been oh so busy with work and mothering 3 boys that I have actually not sewed anything for months! We just got back form Malaysia last week, attending my second brother's, Afian's, wedding. I am hoping to write about that soon after choosing and editing the wedding pictures. Anyway, with my cloth wipes running low on stock, I decided to have a little browse at our local Spotlight and choose some cute patterns for a new design, this time maybe something for the boys. So I made this 'Whale' cloth liners - with the cute blue whales on the micro fleece, and a simple grey pattern on the flannel. Hope you guys like it as much as I do =D So soft and cute! Selling them at my eBay store...

The End of Hizam’s PhD Journey

Image
A Dedication to My One and Only Hasben  finally did it! It took him longer than most people but he finally accomplished his greatest academic goal - getting a PhD in structural engineering. The truth is, he never planned on pursuing this part of life as he was quite an achiever in Kerteh as a maintenance engineer. However, God had other plans for him when he married me, haha! I convinced him to take up this crazy challenge of getting out of our comfort zones, travel to another country and dedicated hours of our time in doing research work for a PhD degree. With the supervisors We started together early 2012, at USQ, Toowoomba, Australia and I graduated in 2015. After this, it seemed he hit the pause button and was progressing very slow. This made me worry constantly! But in early 2018, he finally regained his momentum and completed 4 journals in that short time period. Proud parents! It was a big moment for us when he finally received the letter confirming his

Cunningham's Crest Lookout, Laidley, Qld

Image
A view of the township of Laidley from above. Date: 26 January 2019 Location: 50 Mountain Road, Laidley, 4341 QLD, Australia. Every time we travel from Toowoomba to Brisbane or Gold Coast using the Warrego Highway, we will definitely notice the brown signboard to Cunningham's Crest Lookout. We made plenty of plans to check it out one day - and finally, that day is... not today, but last January! (The speed of updating this blog is declining LOL) Once you exit Warrego Highway, it will take 12 minutes to reach the lookout. Therefore, expect about 45 minutes of detour - this includes exploring the place. The viewing platform is not pram/wheelchair friendly, but definitely an easy climb. Keeps the kids busy for a couple of minutes =) Nice view of the plains! A couple of picnic tables available if you prefer to have a lunch stop here.  The weather was perfect!

Lunch with the SVs!

Image
Date : 28 February 2019 Hasben’s PHd journey has come to its end. I am super relieved and of course, happy! We wanted to thank our supervisors who have supported us throughout this long challenging chapter of our lives. So, we invited them over for a Malaysian-style lunch - Nasi Ayam! I served my first ever homegrown honeydew that I freshly picked from my backyard garden. At first, I thought it was a watermelon plant. I have thrown so many leftover fruits in the garden bed that it was quite impossible to know which species had successfully established itself in there! The honeydew was absolutely sweet and I was pretty surprised, to be honest. The lunch went well and Allan said, “This is better than PapaRich.” Seriously, that made my day! =D Thank you for coming. In this picture, there are 3 academic doctors and 1 medical doctor.
