Xander's Birthday Party

A beautiful day for a party at Laurel Bank Park.
Happy birthday to a special little man, Xander Love, who is one of my students from Madrasah. He is the cutest little thing - half Indonesian and half Australian, and he can speak both Indo and English. I made this gluten-free cake for Afi, so that he won't feel left out. I figured that from now on, I have to bring my own cake for all birthday parties - the things mommies do for their gluten-intolerant kids eh...
The dads were busy grilling the sate while mommy Sofi was the perfect host. 
The weather was terrific for the event. The kids were running around and also playing at the near-by playground. 
Also, the piñata was such an anticipated event - it was the first time for Kimi to hit a piñata (I'm thinking he will request this for his birthday next year!) while Afi was busy attacking a watermelon, being oblivious of his surroundings... haha! This is the aftermath of the piñata breaking:

Wishing the birthday boy a great year ahead and hope he enjoys his many presents =D

Kimi will be 3 soon and guess what, he is also a newly-appointed big brother! This time around, Prince Court is not in the picture - being full-time students, we can only afford to attend Toowoomba Base Hospital, a government hospital so this will be a whole new experience for me, not to mention being in a whole different country! The first book from her that I read was Under the Duvet, and the second was The Other Side of The Story - both I borrowed from UTM's library. She writes about characters with real life issues and manage to make the situation light although it's actually a dark topic. At the end of the day, readers will learn about complicated issues without feeling depressed. She delivers the message and adds humor to it - just brilliant! Plus, I learned a few Irish words! Sushi for Beginners is about the lives of 3 different ladies, all facing depressions. Different characters have a different coping mechanism. Synopsis: Lisa, a beautiful, career oriented lady is the b*tch boss from hell. She'll do whatever it takes to be the best at what she does, even if it means having no friends and family. Melbourne Weekend Getaway! Date: 13 May 2011 It is not often you hear someone say, "I'm going to Australia just for the weekend". However, it actually happened to me, not intentionally, but accidentally... I booked my flight ticket (in August 2010 for the lowest fare possible!!) without double checking and ended up with only 2 full days to spend in Melbourne. To make the best of it, I pre-booked full day tours for both days... which left out any opportunity for Melbourne city sight-seeing - how sad! From LCCT, KLIA to Melbourne Airport, it took about 8 hours flight - which I can't sleep for most part of it!! - and the time difference is plus 2 hours from Malaysia.
